Sustainability Policy

INTRODUCTION

Kennedy Transport is committed to promoting sustainability. We recognise that all firms and individuals have an important role to play in reducing negative environmental impacts and specifically tackling climate change. As such, concern for the environment and the promotion of a broader sustainability agenda are integral to Kennedy Transport activities and the management of the organisation. We aim to follow and to promote good sustainability practice, to reduce the environmental impacts of all our activities and to help our clients and partners to do the same.

We have developed the Kennedy Transport Sustainability Policy, which comprises a set of principles, operating procedures and business targets.

PRINCIPALS

Our Sustainability Policy is based upon the following principles:

  • To comply with, and exceed where practicable, all applicable legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
  • To integrate sustainability considerations into all our business decisions.
  • To ensure that all staff are fully aware of our Sustainability Policy and are committed to implementing and improving it.
  • To minimise the impact on sustainability of all office and transportation activities.
  • To make clients and suppliers aware of our Sustainability Policy, and encourage them to adopt sound sustainable management practices.
  • To review, annually report, and to continually strive to improve our sustainability performance.

PRINCIPLE STEPS

In order to put these principles into action and to reduce our negative environmental impacts as a firm and as individuals, Kennedy Transport implements and recommends the following:

Minimising carbon emissions from travel:

  • Encourage employees to use public transport, walk or cycle to attend work.
  • When renewing company vehicles including cars and haulage vehicles, the cleanest, lowest emission standard vehicle will be sourced whenever possible
  • Kennedy Transport shall provide employees with technology options that provide an alternative that can avoid the requirement to physically travel to meetings, including teleconferencing, web cams, and the efficient timing of meetings to avoid multiple trips
  • Continue to monitor fuel consumption and idling times for all vehicles and implement improvements as required

Minimise water consumption, waste and maximise recycling:

  • Continue to review ways to reduce water consumption at all work locations, for example the fitting of water misers.
  • Minimise our use of paper and other office consumables, for example by double-siding all paper used.
  • As far as possible arrange for the reuse or recycling of all waste, including paper, computer supplies and redundant equipment.
  • Reduce the energy consumption of office equipment by purchasing energy efficient equipment and employing good housekeeping (switching off equipment that is not in use).

Working practices:

  • Kennedy Transport undertakes regular employee awareness sessions to ensure every employee adheres to our sustainability policy.
  • Wherever possible we source products and services from local suppliers. This primarily covers printing supplies, stationery, computing equipment and spare parts for vehicle maintenance.
  • Kennedy Transport will include a copy of our Sustainability Policy in all our proposals to clients.

Targets and reporting our progress:

  • Kennedy Transport will set environmental / sustainability objectives and targets and these will be regularly monitored and discussed as part of ongoing management review meeting to ensure objectives are being met.
  • Kennedy Transport will communicate and report annually to all personnel the progress against set environmental / sustainability objectives and targets.
